Dr. Mark Piehl

Pediatric Intensivist
WakeMed
Dr. Piehl is a pediatric intensivist at WakeMed in Raleigh, NC, and served as Medical Director of the WakeMed Children's Hospital since 2009-2015. His clinical interests include airway management, trauma, critical care transport, traumatic brain injury, shock & sepsis, ultrasound, and procedural sedation. Dr. Piehl has faculty appointments in the Departments of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina and Duke University, and teaches pediatric emergency and critical care skills to learners at all levels, with a particular interest in the use of medical simulation. Dr. Piehl received his BA from Davidson, and his MD and Master's of Public Health from UNC Chapel Hill. He trained in pediatrics, internal medicine, and pediatric critical care at UNC. Dr. Piehl is co-founder of 410 Medical Innovation, a company focused on improving resuscitation in shock and sepsis.

Pre-Hospital Fluid Resuscitation
